Fashion Fridays – Pearls and Swine

17 Aug

I am so excited to annouce my new weekly feature, Fashion Fridays! I will be featuring different independant companies and trends that I adore. The first company I am featuring is Pearls and Swine.

Based in the UK, these equistite, ornate, incredibly well made handcrafted fascinators, millinery, vintage style headpieces and bridal headwear have been on my wishlist for quite some time! Not only do they offer hair accessories, hats and beautifully unique headwear, they also offer eyepatches, necklaces, merkins, shoe clips and masks.

I have always had a soft spot for eyepatches and the ones from Pearls and Swine make that spot even softer.

My personal favorites are the half mask fascinators they make. The craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into each one makes these stunning creations something I drool over a lot.

This has been on my wishlist for so long!

I, like a lot of pinups, have a deep rooted love for anything tropical and this kitschy pineapple fascinator would be a great addition to any pinup’s tiki wardrobe!

Here are a couple more examples of what Pearls and Swine offers. They are all so whimsical and remind me of something out of a fairytale.

If you’d like to see more of these incredible designs (there is a lot more!), or to order something, visit their website here: http://www.pearlsandswine.co.uk

Check back next week for another Fashion Fridays feature!

Milwaukee Alt.Grand Canyon Alt. Shoot

28 Mar

I recently received my edits from the first shoot I did after going back to my natural red hair. Ryan, the photographer behind Milwaukee Alt, was in Flagstaff for a few days in February and after some correspondence, we decided to brave the cold 40° weather and do a shoot outdoors. It felt great to be shooting again and I was really happy to shoot some pinup photos that were unlike anything I’d shot before. I am very excited about the way these turned out! Here’s a few photos from the shoot. You can see more of them on my Facebook fanpage as I post them and you can see more of Ryan’s work on his Facebook fanpage.

Oh yeah, makeup and hair was done by me. 😉

New year, new photos?

3 Jan

So many great photos came out of all of the photo shoots with all of the talented photographers and hairstylists/makeup artists I was lucky enough to work with last year. This year, I want to step it up a notch, or preferably several notches. I want to bring some fun ideas, super sexy ideas, creative ideas and classic pinup ideas to life.

If you are a photographer, hairstylist, makeup artist or designer within driving distance of Flagstaff Arizona and would like to create some art with me this year, let me know! You can contact me at melissamisfortune@yahoo.com or through my Model Mayhem account at http://www.modelmayhem.com/1444603

Otherwise, if you’re a friend or fan stay tuned! This year will be a great and productive one if I have anything to say about it

As always, thank you for the support!

Edson Carlos – Second Set

30 Nov

You may remember the set of photos of me by Edson Carlos (creator of www.pinuplifestyle.com) with hair and makeup by KandyK (www.kandyk.com) that I posted recently. They were quite different from any other photos I have to date and turned out to be a big hit. Stepping out of my norm and shooting that set has fueled my creativity even more and I can’t wait to get some of these ideas into production so I can share them with you all! (The first set of photos can be found here: https://melissamisfortune.wordpress.com/2011/10/07/shooting-with-edson-carlos/)

That set was dark, gritty and raw, which I plan to do more of in the near future.
Here is another set from Edson that is quite the opposite and was just as much fun for me to shoot. It’s girly and fun and shows off one of my greatest loves, cheese! Hair and makeup was done by KandyK (she is great to work with!) and the dress is a revamped vintage pattern from 1954 made for me by my mama.

I hope you enjoyed these photos as much as I enjoyed shooting them!

Nowells Photography

26 Nov

While looking through my portfolio a couple of months ago, I realized I only had one set of studio shots. I needed some to enter a pinup contest so I sought out to get some done. I had seen Nowells Photography on Model Mayhem and liked it so I sent her a message. We shot soon after that and I am glad we did! Here are some of my favorite photos from our shoot. You can find more of her work at www.nowells.weebly.com and can also find her work on Facebook at www.facebook.com/nowellsphotography .

Shooting with Edson Carlos

7 Oct

This July I got to shoot with Edson Carlos and have my hair and makeup done by Kandy K. Edson is the creator of www.pinuplifestyle.com which is not only a lot of fun to look around on, discuss various topics and post your own photos, it’s also a great networking resource. Kandy is a very accomplished, internationally published model and a flat-out fantastic hairstylist and makeup artist. She used nothing but MAC and I have to admit, it made me want to spurlge on some of the MAC makeup I’ve been eyeing.

We shot two looks that day, each of them drastically different from the other. I love shooting pinup, few things make me feel as womanly, empowered and beautiful than slipping into a vintage, curve-hugging dress (heck, that’s exactly why I dress that way on a daily basis) but it was fun and refreshing to shake things up and shoot something with a different feel. These are the photos from the first look we shot, the second look will be released next month so keep your eyes peeled! In the meantime, check out Edson’s website www.edsoncarlos.com and Kandy’s website www.KandyK.com and enjoy!

Rockabilly Royale Recap

9 Aug

Thank you to everyone who came out to support me in the pinup contest on July 30th! Your support means more to me than you know and I’m happy to say that I won Miss Congeniality in the pinup contest! Also, thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth! Whether you bought something or not, thank you for saying hi!

All of the bands that played were great, I always love seeing Voodoo Swing and Rooster Coupe DeVille! I’d never seen The Toomstoners, Shit Outta Luck or El Camino Royales before. They were all fantastic! The company was great, the pinup contest had some seriously stiff competition and was full of super sweet girls! I was so happy to meet so many sweethearts and to have gotten to know others even better! Below are a few photos of the event and from the shoots I did while there!

And last but not least, my booth! The rad wood coffins, purses and jewelry boxes in the back on the right were not made by me, they were made by my friend Scott. He is an incredible artist and it was great to share a booth with him! 🙂

Thank you Tara O Photos for the photo!

My Shoot with D2 Photography

19 Jul

Last month I got to work with a very talented photographer and author, Dan Cavallari aka D2 Photography. He was very professional, creative and fun to work with. I hope to shoot with him again before he moves! Below are just a few of my favorites from the shoot. My hair and makeup was done by me. These photos were taken on 6-13-2011.

Thanks again to Scott, Don E of Lowbrow Gallery and Tattoo Studio and Raffael of The Moonlight Howlers for being part of this shoot!

More photos from this shoot can be found on my Facebook and you can find more of Dan’s work on his website
