The Infamous Fruit Dress

3 May

Last month I got to work with the very talented and awesome Taylor Mahoney once again (check out my post titled ‘The Tearing Out of Hearts and Doing ‘The Sprinkler’ Afterwards’). These photos have such a bright, summery, almost surreal feeling to them and they are exactly what I had in mind. I am so happy with them and I anxiously await the rest of the set! I will post more from this shoot on my Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/melissa.misfortune) as soon as I get them.

I have had this fantastic fruit dress for a few years and for some reason up until a few months ago, I had never actually worn it. I would always put it on, look at it in the mirror and decide on something a little more understated. Needless to say, these days it has become one of my favorite things in my closet. This dress reminds me of a lot of the clothing in Edward Scissorhands and no matter where I go in it, it causes quite a stir. I bought some of the oranges the day of the shoot and the looks I got buying nothing but two large bags of ’em in this get-up were memorable to say the least. This was by far my best smelling shoot to date thanks to the immense amounts of fresh fruit we had on set. Mmm… Citrus!

I love behind the scenes photos and this one is truly awesome. Taylor is about 6’4″ and I am a staggering 4’11”. Not to mention, Taylor is pretty tan and I am utterly incapable of getting any color other than freckles so I look a bit like a ghost standing next to him.

You can see more of Taylor’s work (and book him while you’re at it!) at http://www.taylormahoneyphotography.com

Hair, makeup and wardrobe were all done by me. The orange and lemon slice hair clips were made by me as well. Thanks to Lomisa at our local Sally Beauty for an awesome idea for the eyeshadow!

Thanks for reading!
