The lineup this year is: The Moonlight Howlers, Hard Fall Hearts and Mad Max and The Wild Ones, this is sure to be a show you don’t want to miss!

Rockabilly Royale Recap

9 Aug

Thank you to everyone who came out to support me in the pinup contest on July 30th! Your support means more to me than you know and I’m happy to say that I won Miss Congeniality in the pinup contest! Also, thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth! Whether you bought something or not, thank you for saying hi!

All of the bands that played were great, I always love seeing Voodoo Swing and Rooster Coupe DeVille! I’d never seen The Toomstoners, Shit Outta Luck or El Camino Royales before. They were all fantastic! The company was great, the pinup contest had some seriously stiff competition and was full of super sweet girls! I was so happy to meet so many sweethearts and to have gotten to know others even better! Below are a few photos of the event and from the shoots I did while there!

And last but not least, my booth! The rad wood coffins, purses and jewelry boxes in the back on the right were not made by me, they were made by my friend Scott. He is an incredible artist and it was great to share a booth with him! 🙂

Thank you Tara O Photos for the photo!

Voodoo Swing Rockumentary

21 Jul

During Lake Havasu Rockabilly Reunion earlier this year, the finalists in the pin up contest got to dance in front of and on the stage before they narrowed it down to the top 5 girls. I am so glad to have been a finalist in the contest! It was so much fun and I met so many great people, I am excited for Tempe Rockabilly Reunion and next year’s Lake Havasu Reunion! Anyway, one of the bands playing that weekend was Voodoo Swing, out of Phoenix Arizona. These guys put on some seriously bad ass shows and I can’t listen to them without wanting to get my jive on. I had heard they were filming a rockumentary about Voodoo Swing at the Reunion but I, being a bit oblivious sometimes – especially when shaking my thang, didn’t know they were filming us dancing! This is such a cool video about a truly great band and I am so happy to be in it. Thank you Miss Jessadoll for showing me this!

The times I can be seen at are:
1:14 and my lovely friend and fellow pinup Kathleen Raye is in front of me,
3:00 on the right towards the back for a split second,
I am second to last in the conga line that starts at 3:05 (Kathleen is in front of me),
Shaking my bootay at 3:31
You can see my friend Jillian Danielson at 5:09 She is the one shooting Voodoo Swing and the Pinup Patriettes!

In case ya’ll had trouble spotting Kathleen and I or you just want to see pin ups in swimwear (why wouldn’t you?!), here’s a couple of photos!

Left to Right: Kathleen Raye, Melissa Misfortune, Lisa Luxe (she won second!), Nikki Napalm (this sweetheart won the Miss Congeniality award!). All of our suits are from the amazing Vintage Suits by Mary.

I hope you enjoyed the video and photos! Next time Voodoo Swing is in your neck of the woods, go see ’em!

Three Bad Jacks, National Train Days and Mother’s Day <3

9 May

Boy, this weekend was fun! Friday night my mom, her boyfriend, my daughter and I went downtown for the First Friday Artwalk. We spent most of the time during the artwalk at Birch Avenue Tattoo hanging out with my man and the other Birch Ave guys. All of the artists there are so talented and I love going in to look around when they hang new work. As always, there was good food, great company and a lot of “awww”s over Annabelle (my daughter). After hanging out for a while, my mom took the little one home and put her to bed while my boyfriend Jeff and I walked over to the Monte Vista.

Three Bad Jacks and Black Orchid were both playing that night and they were both awesome as always. It was great seeing Elvis, Adam and Reuben again. Earlier that day, Jeff “El Jefe” tattooed a flat-out amazing Joe Strummer portrait on Reuben and I’m glad I got to see it in person. It was even up close, as his tattoo work always is. They are all such nice guys and I really enjoyed hanging out with them again. It was a fun show with great bands, great friends and great bands that are friends!

Elvis, the lead singer and guitarist of Three Bad Jacks.

The next morning was an early one. We got up, I went and showered, got dressed, put my Annabelle in her cute zebra dress we got at Rockabilly Reunion and her mary janes, loaded my mom, Annabelle, Jeff and I into the car and drove to Williams for National Train Days. We met up with Jillian and her husband along with Kathleen and her boyfriend and went to lunch at Pancho McGuillicuddy’s for lunch. I had heard of this place before and that it was great but I still had some minor doubts about a mexican food restaurant that had a shamrock for a sign. After my first bite, I knew there was no reason to doubt that place, it was great!

Kathleen and Annabelle after lunch. 🙂

Annabelle at the restaurant being a cutie like always. Photo copyright Jillian Danielson Photography, she is so talented!

Once we were done with lunch we went over to the train station and got our tickets for the train which was a restored open-window steam train from 1923 that has recently been converted to run on waste vegetable oil, how cool is that?!

After the train ride through the beautiful pine forest, we walked
around for a while, wandered through Williams, looked around and took a few more photos that will be posted at a later date for top-secret reasons. 😉

My mom, my daughter and I while out looking around Williams. Happy Mother’s Day!

We ended the day pretty early since Kathleen had somewhere to get to and Jillian and her husband had a long drive home. I’ll admit, I was exhausted and felt more like a vegetable than a person at that point. It was a great day and I was happy to get to spend time with all of them. I was hoping to get some shots with Taylor Mahoney in as well since he was there but we must have missed each other in passing.  It was so incredibly windy that day and my hair was not having it anyway. I saw him and his girlfriend from afar at one point and we exchanged a wave Nevertheless, I am excited to see the photos they took that day and am looking forward to shooting with him again sometime soon.

Yesterday was Mother’s Day (obviously), I spent the morning at work and the rest of the day at home with my mom and my daughter. We did some housework, ordered pizza, watched a couple of movies and went to bed.

It was a fun weekend filled with great people and great music. I hope you had a great weekend and that you have a great week ahead of you!

Xoxo,
Melissa

Three Bad Jacks and Black Orchid at the Monte V – Friday May 6th!

4 May

For those of you who will be in Flagstaff this Friday for the artwalk, Birch Avenue Tattoo will be showing artwork so be sure to stop by, check out the new look to the place and say hi to the guys at the best shop in town! When you are done with the artwalk, stop by the Monte Vista lounge for a great rockabilly band, Three Bad Jacks as well as a great metal band, Black Orchid. It’s sure to be a great show with some bad ass rockabilly guys playing flaming instruments! If you see me out, feel free to say hi, I don’t bite. ❤

Ps, To those of you going to The Meteors show, have fun!! I’m bummed I am unable to make it to that one but Three Bad Jacks and Black Orchid are always great! 🙂

Lake Havasu Rockabilly Reunion 2011 (better late than never!)

22 Apr

Oh wow! I haven’t posted in a while! So, to pick up where I left off, Rockabilly Reunion in February was a ton of fun! (Read on, there are photos…) It was amazing that the Rockabilly Hall of Fame came out to cover the event since it is a smaller weekender. It may be smaller but it’s growing fast and I definitely see why they came out! The music was fantastic of course, I met so many great people, drooled over the cars, hung out with the lovely Kathleen Raye and entering the pinup contest was totally worth it. I didn’t win but I was a finalist, pretty good for my second contest ever! 😉 Congrats to Maritza Martini, Lisa Luxe and Maybelle Lee, you were all so sweet and looked flawless all weekend!

Booze Bombs were fantastic, just as I expected, and I am so happy they came all the way from Germany to play. Despite having seen photos and videos of Cash’d Out, I couldn’t get over how much he truly looked like him on stage. Not to mention, it sounded like we were listening to Johnny and June themselves. It was the last show High Rollers are ever playing, sad but what a way to go out!  Voodoo Swing, Rooster Coupe Deville, Deadbeat Daddies (haha, I love that name) and Bastard Whinos were all bands I had heard but hadn’t seen play before, they were all great live! Three Bad Jacks were bad ass as always and I’m looking forward to their show next month. How can a band that lights their instruments on fire not be bad ass? Last but certainly not least, The Moonlight Howlers killed it! Based out of Williams Arizona, this band should not be missed! If you get a chance to see them, do! They are all so talented, nice and Ariel (she is the drummer and sings too) always has amazing hair and flawless outfits. She is such a doll too!

While there, I shot with Cherry Club Photography and I am glad I did! They were fun, nice and professional. I am excited to shoot with them again. To see more of the photos we did, add me on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/melissa.misfortune

The vendors were great too. I got my new favorite jacket from Red Devil Clothing (I wear that thing everywhere and get tons of compliments on it), some kick ass Sourpuss and Rock Rebel stuff and got to meet Mary, the genius designer behind Vintage Suits by Mary! I looooooove her designs, they are so feminine, cute and sexy; I have my eye on so many of her suits! I feel great every time I put on the polka dot playsuit I got at the Reunion. It has a metal zipper, an adjustable strap done in the true vintage style (with buttons) and it has boning! Like I said, she’s a swimsuit genius.

Below are just a few candids and photos of the event (as well as the photos by Cherry Club Photography because wordpress is being lame), there are way too many to post here!
